We are committed to cultivating new theater pieces, supporting playwrights in the development of their work, and diversifying the stories told on our stages. As a new endeavor within a predominantly white theater, we seek to construct diverse programming and volunteer teams representative of the abundant talent and craftsmanship across our dynamic community.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

  • CV or creative resume
  • Work samples relative to your discipline
  • Two references' contact information (plus, optional letter of recommendation)
  • A Brief bio, artist statement, and project proposal for what you’d like to work on while in-residence.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

ROUND 1

  • Submit a one-page synopsis of your show
  • Submit two contrasting songs. We want to hear what your intention is for the score and how the songs are telling the story
  • Submit one-page or a one-minute video pitch about why you are passionate about telling this story and what development your musical needs

  • No prior AEA production
  • Seven character maximum
  • Cover letter attached
  • One letter of recommendation

In each category, a first, second and third place winner will be selected.
Plus, the top three winners in each category will have their play read and directed by professional theater artists which will be livestreamed for the public!

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

For the first round of the application process you will need: 

  • A Statement in 750 words or less responding to these questions: What kind of work are you interested in making at this moment and why? Are there questions that you try to pursue and interrogate in your work? How does this fellowship at New York Theatre Workshop specifically appeal to you as an artist right now?
