Stay True Theatre Company open play submissions

Stay True Theatre Company is a small theatre company based in New York City, founded in Summer 2019 in honor of World Pride by Andrew Victor Myers and Morgan Bartholick, following a one-off production benefitting Gay Men's Health Crisis. In 2020, Anne Karyna Bakan joined the administrative staff as the company's new Associate Artistic Director. Together, Andrew and Anne strive to produce and support work that embodies the vast medley of identities and groups that comprise the entire LGBTQIA+ community.

NYC Women’s Fund for Media, Music and Theatre

Grants for theatre production offer up to $50,000.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

• Projects must be made by, for, or about women and woman-identified individuals. Projects are eligible if they include and/or feature any of the following: a prominent woman-identified perspective, a meaningful woman-identified producer credit, a meaningful woman-identified writing credit, and/or a woman-identified protagonist(s).

• Must be an original play or book of a musical (with dialogue, lyrics and music) that has not been produced previously.

Frozen Women/Flowing Thoughts

WHAT TO SUBMIT: A single female-identifying character monologue up to 15 minutes in length, with an optional 2-minute edit for actors to use as audition pieces. No props and the set can not be larger than a 7’ blackbox contained space.

HOW TO APPLY: Email submissionsofvenus@gmail.com with the subject heading FWFT: (name of your short play) (name of the playwright). ATTACH a digital copy of the script.

ENTRY FEE: None. Submit as many monologues as you like.

The Boost

Timeline:

  • Application Deadline: November 15, 2023 or until 150 applications are received
  • Winner announced: February 1, 2024
  • Play delivered: February 1, 2025
  • Reading of the commissioned play: Spring 2025

  • A two-page project summary in which the writer describes the play they intend to write, and answers the question: what about Leah’s play The Wire inspired your idea for this play?

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

  • We accept work that respects the intelligence of young audiences and compels adults and children alike. We hold our material to the same artistic standards as any company developing work for adult audiences.
  • Only plays that have been professionally produced, or that are scheduled to be professionally produced are eligible for submission.

Open script submissions

Email a ten-page sample of your script, a short synopsis, and a brief bio to Associate Artistic Director, Deidra LaWan Starnes with Script Submission in the subject line. Electronic submissions are preferred.

Please note: due to the amount of submissions received, all artists may not be contacted personally. If 1st Stage is interested in the work you submitted or in reading more of your work, we will contact you within six months of receipt of your submission.
