Curtain Rising: Staged Readings of New Works

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

  • The 2nd Stage is our Black Box space which seats about 25 people.
  • Playwrights agree to have their work presented with no compensation.
  • Playwrights must be present at one of the two performances of the program to see their work performed and be present for audience feedback post-performance.
  • We are focused on plays which have not been formally produced. 
  • The plays will be selected by February 5, 2024.

    SUBMISSIONS GUIDELINES

    • Submissions not titled/tagged or formatted or properly under the Submissions Guidelines will not be considered for publication.
    • We do not accept previously published work, and we ask for First Electronic Rights and Non-Exclusive Archival Rights upon acceptance.
    • Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please let us know if your work has been accepted elsewhere.
    • We welcome 10-minute plays (up to approximately 10 pages in length).
    • No full-length plays will be considered at this time.

    Byrdcliffe Summer Cottage Residency

    This application requires you to upload a few things which you might want to have on hand before beginning the application:

    • CV or creative resume
    • Work samples relative to your discipline

    You will also need to provide:

    • Two references' contact information (plus, optional letter of recommendation)
    • A Brief bio, artist statement, and project proposal for what you’d like to work on while in-residence.

    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

    • Interviews will be conducted with a select group of candidates after the initial review of application is completed. (Only matriculated students are eligible to take MFA courses.)
    • You must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for admission. Meeting these minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance to the program.​
      • A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution comparable in standard and content to a bachelor’s degree from Hunter College.

    HOW TO APPLY

    • Manhattan Theatre Club’s partnership with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation is twofold: we commission not-yet-written plays that engage with math, science, or technology, and we accept completed scripts that explore these themes to consider for full production.
    • Please use this form to submit a one-page commission proposal or a completed script for production consideration.
    • You will also be asked to share your full name, email address, and a short bio or resume.

    Zemii One-Act Play Contest

    SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

    • This contest is for previously unpublished plays. Only plays not previously published, professionally produced, or performed are eligible. 
    • Plays submitted in previous contests that did not place are eligible.
    • Unlimited entries allowed. One script per submission.
    • Simultaneous submissions accepted.
    • Plays may not be under option, commission, or scheduled for professional production or publication at the time of submission.

    ETWW Winter 2023 Workshop

    Literary movements and theories allow us to see the social response of theatre to the world. While these movements and theories enlighten us to historical artistic responses, they can also seem like arcane academic subjects to the writer. However, a study of these techniques can help us to expand our own writing repertoire.

    SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

    Please read this entire section before beginning your application. If you have any questions about your project’s eligibility or alignment, we highly encourage you to contact MAP’s grant team prior to submitting.

    The grant program’s purpose is to support the creation of new, live performance projects that will be experienced by communities throughout what is now known as the United States, including its territories and Indigenous tribal nations within.

    SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

    SHORTS

    Short subjects: Extended LGBT-themed scene or 1-Act. 3 to 5 characters. 12 to 25 minutes runtime. Must be complete and stand alone as a finished work.

    SHOTS!

    Very short dialogue bits: 2 characters. 2 to 10 minutes runtime. (Okay. A 3rd character bit-part or VO if really needed). Think of these as blackout skits, short dialogue bits, etc. Must feature some aspect of LGBT life.
