CLASS DESCRIPTION

Whether a hobbyist or mid-career playwright, it is easy to impose constraints on one’s writing. Lauren Wimmer helps writers break through those constraints by guiding students to trust their instincts. Through writing exercises and group activities, students will walk away with a new sense of play in their writing.

This class is for you if you:

• Feel held back or stuck in your writing.
• Wish you felt more free while developing your stories. 
• Are interested in new strategies to strengthen your writing.
• Are interested in learning more about Lauren Wimmer’s work and approach to writing.

What to expect:

• In-class writing exercises
• Sharing and discussing work
• Small group activities
• Walk out with short scenes and new exercises to generate ideas and characters

Important Things to Note:

• When you sign up, you will receive an auto-confirmation email. About a week before the first session you will receive a detailed confirmation email with important information about the seminar including (1) Membership Programs Participation Form (2) The Zoom link (3) Pre-assignments from the instructor and (4) Information about the PWC Membership and Education Team.

INSTRUCTOR BIO

Lauren Wimmer writes about loneliness, fear, and death in ways that make people say, "hahaha." Her plays have been produced or developed at Cave Theatre Co., Dixon Place, Sewanee Writers' Conference, Panndora Productions, The Tank, Play by Play, A Collective Artists, The Dramatists Guild, PlayGround-NY, Irondale, Imaginarium Theatre Company, Mid-America Theatre Conference, Kennedy Center's American College Theatre Festival, Theater For The New City, Swarm Artist Residency, The Workshop Theater, Campfire Theatre Festival, Ars Nova's ANT Fest, Theatre Evolve, The Annoyance, Theater Masters, The Bechdel Group, Possibilities Theatre Company, and Mildred's Umbrella Theater Company. Lauren's a member of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop and The Actors Studio Playwright/Directors Unit. She's been a Playwrights’ Center Core Apprentice and Sitka Fellow. Her work's been published by Samuel French. Additionally, she’s been a finalist for the Maxim Mazumdar New Play Award, a semi-finalist for the Princess Grace Award, and a nominee for the L. Arnold Weissberger New Play Award at Williamstown Theatre Festival. Lauren is a graduate of The Second City's Conservatory and Writing programs. She received her B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College and her M.F.A. from Carnegie Mellon University where she was the recipient of the Mary Marlin Fisher Playwriting Award and the Jean & Samuel Elgart ACS Legacy Fellowship.
