Biography

Carson Kreitzer is a playwright, lyricist, librettist and a Guggenheim, MacDowell, and McKnight Fellow, as well as a Jonathan Larson Grant Recipient.  Lempicka, a new musical about art deco artist Tamara de Lempicka, written with composer Matt Gould and directed by Rachel Chavkin, was produced at the Williamstown Theater Festival and the La Jolla Playhouse.Upcoming projects include: the climate-crisis plays TIMEBOMB, (developed with A.R.T., Kitchen Theatre Company and The Playwrights Center), and Svalbard, inspired by her time on a ship in the Arctic, exploring the Svalbard Archipelago, as well as Capital Crime!, a play with songs set in Gilded Age New York. She is an Affiliated Writer with The Playwrights’ Center, an alumna of New Dramatists, and was the first Playwrights of New York (PoNY) Fellow at the Lark. Her collection "SELF DEFENSE and other plays" is available from No Passport Press.

Successes

New musical Lempicka, book and lyrics by Carson Kreitzer, begins a pre-Broadway West Coast premiere this spring at La Jolla Playhouse in California. It will be directed by Tony Award-winning Hadestown director Rachel Chavkin. 

 Theatre Communications Group (TCG) has announced the first round of recipients for the 2018 Edgerton Foundation New Play Awards. Lempicka, book and lyrics by Carson Kreitzer, music by Matt Gould, at Williamstown Theatre Festival has been selected as one of nine plays to receive this prestigious award.
