One Act Adaptation

An adaptation of the Sherwood Anderson story, "The Egg". The narrator recounts his childhood in the 1920's growing up in failing businesses of restaurants and chicken farming. The play gives him a chance to confront his father and attempt to change the family's destiny.

He had, until recently, no notion of trying to rise in the world. NARRATOR, Male, 35. A grown up Natan, now a clear eyed newspaper man."If, in my turn, I am a gloomy man inclined to see the darker side of life, I attribute it to the fact that what should have been for me the happy joyous days of childhood were instead spent on a chicken farm." JOE KANE/YOUNG MAN, Male, 20. JOE KANE is the well-dressed son of a local banker. YOUNG MAN is the country son of a local farmer HANNAH MARQUARDT, ASA's Wife. Female 50, (With scenes of younger days). "A country school teacher, she read of Garfield, Lincoln, and other Americans who rose from poverty to fame and greatness. For herself she wanted nothing. For father and myself she was incurably ambitious." NATAN, Male, 14 (With scenes of younger days). Son of ASA and HANNAH Marquardt. Old enough to start having notions of his own
