Curtis Jerome is a contender whose opponent dies from injuries he administers in the ring. He struggles with his guilt and remorse, and with the differing reactions from those around him. In the end he finds resolution in going back to basics.
Herbert is a retired pharmacist, a little bored, and very annoyed at the TV ads by a State Senate candidate in his district in Ohio. Prodded by his grandson, who is a lawyer and political consultant, he decides he'll run for the same seat -- a rookie at 82. In the process he learns a lot about the place he's always lived, and is a little bemused at how much he wants it. A comedy, mostly.
