Biography

Makeda Declet is a Guyanese-American, LA-based playwright, producer and actress. She attended New York University where she received her BFA in theater, studying at The Experimental Theater Wing, ITW Amsterdam, and The Classical Studio. Her most recent plays include CAMP, HAMMER and Service/Play. She is the writer and producer of the web series, Just Makeda, an absurd semi-autobiography about a world in which alter egos exist and manifest themselves as puppets. She is a member of SAG/AFTRA and AEA.

Acting credits include recurring roles on Tyler Perry’s House of Payne (TBS) and Being Mary Jane (BET). As well as roles on How to Get Away with Murder (ABC), Brooklyn Nine-Nine (FOX), and Miracle Workers (TBS). Stage credits include Sherelle in “Da Kink in My Hair”, Helena in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, and 00 in the LA premiere of The Wolves by Sarah DeLappe.

 

Successes

Makeda is a 2019 HBOAccess Writing Program Finalist.

Makeda became a member of Ovation Award Winning theater company, the Echo Theater company in Los Angeles. 

Makeda was accepted as a member of EST- LA's New West Playwright's group.

The Workshop production of HAMMER went up at the Belfry Stage in June 2018.

Selected as a 2017 participant of the Mad Lab play development series at Moving Arts Theater, LA.
