Agent Information

Joan Milburn is a performer, playwright, educator, and Texas transplant currently based in New York City. Joan wrote her first play at age 14 in her freshman year at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, and has since been cultivating her passion for the craft while working to intersect her art with activism and education. Joan’s favorite subjects to explore in her writing include mental health, feminist narratives, departures from realism and traditional structure, and, of course, Texas. A 2019 Graduate of Southwestern University, Joan’s work has been produced with Paper Kraine, The Resilience Theatre Group, Little Fish Theatre, Stage West Theatre, TEDxAsburyPark, and the Stage Writers Festival of Texas. She was also a playwriting apprentice during the 2019 Powerhouse Theatre Season through Vassar and New York Stage and Film, and was a 2015 Merit Winner in Play and Screenwriting in the National Young Arts Competition. During the Pandemic, Joan co-founded (and is a current cohort member of) The Citadel of Playwrights, a new-work development group focused on providing support to playwrights of all backgrounds, at every phase of their personal and professional journeys.
