Logline:

In the summer of 2011, Bila Courage, a destitute Tanzanian miner, is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Unable to afford treatment through conventional medicine, Bila is desperate for a cure. Bereft of options, Bila seeks the aid of Daktari Mchawi, an enigmatic traditional healer, whose esoteric machinations leave Bila with an impossible choice. What would you sacrifice to save your own life?

Cast:
BILA COURAGE: Tanzanian. Male. A dejected poet with unrealized potential. Terminally ill with African KS. Desperate for something to believe in. Late twenties to thirties. DAKTARI MCHAWI: Kenyan. Venerable, yet filled with boundless vigor. A retired surgeon and renowned mystic imbued with charismatic wisdom. Enigmatic with daunting power. Master percussionist. Sixties. ISAAC BARAKA: Tanzanian. Male. Childhood friend of Bila. Has albinism and is a skin cancer survivor. Distinguished poet and missionary defying his circumstances. Late twenties to thirties. DR. GRACE: Kenyan. Female. Bila's oncologist. A dim light in a bleak profession. Early thirties. MAMA COURAGE: Tanzanian. Bila's mother. A woman of immense faith and empathy. Loves her family, endures her husband. Mid forties. BABA COURAGE: Tanzanian. Bila's father. A crude, yet honest man. Loves to fish, tolerates his family. Fifties. SPIRITS/HUNTERS: Chorus of three to five SPIRITS & BOUNTY HUNTERS. Mostly male, some female, all of varying ages and body types. Later become SPIRIT HUNTERS. Strong movers, physical actors, and performers are advised. A background in percussion is helpful, but not necessary for everyone. Possible double cast as other characters. (i.e. MAMA, BABA, and GRACE.) *Note that all characters speak with an East African accent.
