What have you been working on this year?

Primarily I'm working on this new play commissioned by Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Still untitled, it follows a team of scientists, artists, and soldiers sent west to assess the feasibility of a transcontinental railroad in the mid 1800s. Also continuing with my series of break beat plays which explore hip hop’s effects in the American character over the last 40 years.

What play do you wish you would have written, and why?

Truth told. If I wrote some of my favorite plays, they’d certainly stop being my favorite. If anything the next play is the play I wish I had already written. That way I could hurry up and write the next one.

What do you look for in collaborators?

I am always most drawn to those who take the work serious but not themselves too serious.
