At the PWC this week: Harrison David Rivers

McKnight Fellow in Playwriting Harrison David Rivers is workshopping his new play This Bitter Earth at the Playwrights' Center this week, with actors H. Adam Harris and Michael Wieser. Learn a little bit about Harrison in this mini-interview:

What have you been working on this year?

Plays with talking parrots and karaoke inspired production numbers
A burgeoning relationship between a woman and her housecleaner
And a jazzman clinging to the memory of his former glory.

What is something about playwriting or theater you learned the hard way?

I got so used to saying ‘yes’ early on in my career that I almost forgot that ‘no’ is just as valid a response. Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do for yourself is to decline.

What do you do when you’re stuck on something you’re writing?

I ride the Green Line to downtown Minneapolis and back. Or the #67 bus. There’s something incredibly energizing about writing on the move.

What kind of stories have you been interested in writing recently?

Intimacy seems to be a recurring theme in my work as of late.
