At the PWC this week: Carson Kreitzer

Core Writer Carson Kreitzer is at the Playwrights’ Center this week, workshopping her new play green: an elegy to summer with director Harry Waters Jr., designer Peter Morrow, and actors Christian Bardin, ShaVunda Horsley, Zachary Anderson, John Stark, Anika Kulander, Julia Gay, and Jason Rodney. There will be a public reading of the play on Friday, June 19 at 2 p.m. at the Playwrights’ Center. We asked Carson a few questions.

What have you been working on this year?

My National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere for Lasso of Truth continued at Synchronicity in Atlanta and Unicorn Theatre in Kansas City, with the ability to re-write and continue to shape the play through the entire process. What a gift! Also, working with Matt Gould on our musical Lempicka, and writing a new play for the Guthrie, through a new program supported by the Virginia Toulmin foundation. In October, I went to Annaghmakerrig, Ireland, as this year's Dowling Annaghmakerrig Fellow. It was two weeks in Tyrone Guthrie’s ancestral home in Ireland, which has been turned into an artists’ retreat.

Who or what inspires you?

Matt Gould. We've spent some of the longest days I’ve ever put in, rehearsing during the days and re-writing at night. Our work days are always crazy long and intense, but our work this year was a whole new level. I don’t think it’s something I could have pulled off alone, but working with Matt, there is this synergy.
