MEMBER WORKSHOP READINGS

Professionally cast workshops of your script with facilitation and feedback from a dramaturg

FOR THE TIME-BEING, WE ARE UNABLE TO OFFER THESE WORKSHOPS DUE TO COVID-19

Member Workshop Readings are an opportunity for members to hear their scripts read by professional actors in a workshop setting at the Playwrights' Center with feedback from a professional dramaturg.

  • I am looking for professional feedback to use for further development on my play.
  • I am interested in dramaturgical feedback.
  • Having professional actors read my play is very important to me.
  • I have distinct objectives for having a reading of my play, i.e. work on certain scenes, character development, dialogue, etc.

A workshop reading carries a $450 fee, which covers administration, facility rental, casting, and dramaturgy. Actor pay is an additional fee and is the responsibility of the member. PWC casts the actors at $20/hr (3 hour minimum); there is no director. The dramaturg reads the play beforehand and provides formal feedback after the reading in the form of a discussion with the playwright and actors.

More details

Member Workshop Readings are open to all Playwrights’ Center members, except Core Writers and recipients of Playwrights’ Center fellowships.

The readings are very bare bones—there is no director and no rehearsal; it is a playwright-driven process. The Playwrights’ Center casting department will cast the reading based on reading the script and notes provided to us by the playwright. We use both Equity and non-union actors. All Workshop Reading events are private.

A $50 non-refundable deposit is required when booking a date. Full payment is due no later than the day of your scheduled reading.
