CLASS DESCRIPTION

This short seminar will give just a taste of the larger Genre Writing class I will be teaching next fall in the PWC University Course Program. In this seminar, we will be focusing on the Horror genre and, more specifically, exploring the concept of the monster within a horror narrative. Not only will we delve into the various components that potentially make a successful monster, but we will be conducting writing exercises, which will help you create your own monster.

This Is the Class for You if You:

  • Are interested in implementing aspects of horror into their writing
  • Are interested in creating monsters
  • Are interested in how genre fits into the American Theatre

What to Expect:

  • Group discussions (including via the chat)
  • Video Clips
  • Writing Prompt with limited volunteer sharing and feedback

Important Things to Note:

  • This fall semester, Marvin González De León will be teaching Expanding Theatrical Possibilities Through Genre Writing (PWC 310) through the Playwrights' Center's University Course Program. If you have an interest in taking this semester-length class, contact the Director of University Programs and Partnerships, Zoë Rodine.
  • When you sign up, you will receive an auto-confirmation email. The next business day you will receive a detailed confirmation email with important information about the seminar including (1) Membership Programs Participation Form (2) The Zoom link (3) Pre-assignments from the instructor and (4) Information about the PWC Membership and Education Team. If you have not received this email by the next business day, please check your spam folder or reach out to Alayna and she will make sure you have the information you need for the seminar or class.
  • All participants must complete and submit a Membership Programs Participation Form for each seminar or class they want to attend. A link to this form is included in the detailed confirmation email.

NOTE FROM MARVIN

We'll be delving into the backbone of the Horror genre, which I hope will encourage you to think about how you can create relevant horror narratives for the American Theatre.
