Join Playwrights' Center Core Write and Board Member Carlyle Brown for a multi-week class on new work.
Plays are made not written. …The play script as a blue print for a theatrical event.
Plays take place in the real world of performance with a collection of collaborators who make the playwright’s world of words come to life. And there is the essential contribution of the audience. The role of the text is to harmonize and unify these elements toward a live theatrical event. In this class we will begin a new play with these factors in mind, learning tools and strategies to construct our scripts for the real world of performance.
Space is limited to 8 participants. Participants will be expected to bring in fresh pages each week. Class will be held weekly on Wednesdays, November 1 - December 13, 2017 (with a week off on November 22)
This is the class for you:
- If you want to dedicate some strutured time to your new play
- You want to discover new strategies to begin your work
- You want to learn from a greatly admired playwright
