Biography

 

Cory Hinkle is a Los Angeles based playwright who has received the McKnight Fellowship in Playwriting, two Jerome Fellowships, and a Jerome Travel and Study Grant. Cory is the recipient of the Heideman Award for his play, This Quintessence of Dust. He was a co-writer of That High Lonesome Sound, which premiered at the 2015 Humana Festival. His other plays include The Killing of Michael X (Jackalope Theatre, Bay Area Playwrights Festival, Brown/Trinity Playwrights Rep), The End of Beauty (Cape Cod Theater Project), and A Disappearance in Two Parts (HERE Arts Center). His play Little Eyes had its world premiere at The Guthrie Theater, where Cory has been commissioned twice to write plays for the Guthrie’s BFA students. SadGrrl13 premiered at the Workhaus Collective, a company he co-ran with eight other playwrights from 2007-2012. He has devised a number of shows with other artists including Fissures (lost and found) (co-created with writers from Workhaus Collective and artists from Theatre de la Jeune Lune; 2010 Humana Festival), Clandestino (co-created with the Wilhelm Brothers and Victoria Stewart; Mixed Blood Theater; recipient of a MAP Fund Grant; 2015 Sundance Theatre Lab at MASSMoCA), Rehearsing Failure (Recipient of a Playwrights’ Center/Network of Ensemble Theatres Grant; Southern Theatre), and All’s Fair/The War Within (co-created with Dominique Serrand and Steven Epp; Southern Theatre). He has received residences from the MacDowell Colony, the Hermitage Artist Retreat, Tofte Lake Center, and SPACE on Ryder Farm. Theatre Novi Most is presenting REHEARSING FAILURE, with text by Cory Hinkle at the Southern Theater Jan 24-Feb 22, 2015. Originally commissioned for New Works 4 Weeks at Red Eye Theater in summer 2013, this newly re-worked show will feature new scenes, new text, and new songs.
