Biography

Sofya Levitsky-Weitz is a playwright and TV/film writer who splits her time between Brooklyn and Los Angeles. She has an original series in development with Peacock and Lionsgate (co-created with Sarah Blush) – an erotic thriller/stoner romcom. She has earned three Writers Guild nominations for her work on FX’s critically acclaimed THE BEAR and Hulu’s THE DROPOUT and a win for THE BEAR for Best Comedy Series. She has also written for GASLIT on Starz and the upcoming second season of THE BEAR. She is currently serving as a writer/producer for a new Netflix limited series about the origin of Twitter produced by Littleton Roads and UCP. She has additional development projects with OBB and Hat Trick Productions and has worked on multiple features with Michael Showalter including The Eyes of Tammy Faye. As a playwright, Sofya has had her work developed in Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago. Her play this party sucks (on the 2019 Kilroy’s List) is optioned for the stage/film & TV rights by Mark Gordon Pictures and will be commercially produced in New York. Most recently, her play be mean to me was produced at Northwestern University for their theatrical season and she will be a guest artist at Chautauqua Theatre Festival this summer with her play Cannabis Passover (2020 O’Neill Finalist). She was a 2018-2019 Jerome Fellow and 2019-2022 Core Writer at the Playwrights’ Center in Minneapolis and is an alum of EST/Youngblood. She is a MacDowell Fellow and has been in residence at Barn Arts and TOFTE Lake.
