In the Lab celebrates experimentation, and the playwrights who explore new forms and content and push theatrical boundaries. It recognizes that storytelling takes many forms, both creating and responding to the ever-shifting world in which we live.

Two writers will create, explore, and test their new works in a week-long workshop culminating in an open rehearsal presentation for an audience, followed by a conversation with the artists on their process.

“Playwrights rarely have the opportunity to work on a developing play with a fully paid week, a cast, director, dramaturg, a theatrical consultant, and an audience—with no pressure for a finished product… It provides an opportunity to exchange ideas, gain valuable feedback from fellow theater professionals, envision the future potential of your work, and simply enjoy the process of playful exploration. We literally created a whole world together in less than a week and then shared that vision with others, in community and solidarity…such a gift!”
