Biography

Sylvia Bowersox grew up in an Army family before enlisting herself. She served as a US Army Public Affairs Broadcaster attached to the 101st Airborne in Iraq, and then spent two years as a State Department press officer at the US Embassy, Baghdad. She began writing about her experiences while hospitalized at the VA, which evolved into spoken word performances, published poetry, short stories, and Triggers, a chapbook. She was a featured artist on Twitter Stripes for Veteran’s Day 2021. Sylvia has a MA in Creative Writing and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She lives in Northeastern Wisconsin with her veteran husband Jon, and her semi-retired service dog, Timothy.
