Biography

Selena Rose Deer is an Actor, Poet, and Playwright. Classically trained from the age of eight through First Stage Children’s Theatre in Milwaukee. She began the pursuit of playwriting, as there are few written roles specifically for her race and gender in mainstream plays. Selena’s artistic works generate empathy, critique existing systems of oppression, and are calls to action, often writing in terms of escapism.

Currently Studying with BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop Bookwriting Basics, NY, NY (Sept. 2022- May 2023), where she is working on her jukebox musical "A Day of Rain", based on the music by Alabama Shakes.

She presently resides in Brooklyn, NY.

Assassin's Anthology

Seven assassins live together on an estate, each with their own specialty. Hangman, their leader, has a secret he has yet to reveal to the others, until the truth is discovered by the newest addition to the team, Candle. As the youngest assassin, Candle struggles to confront her past trauma and must decide whether or not the new life she has chosen is worth living.

Cast:
SEVEN ACTORS CHARACTERS Candlestick Maker- (aka Candle) Woman, Black, age 18-25. Hangman- Man, white, age 25-40. Leader. Chemist- Woman, Person of Color, age 25-40. Lover- Woman, age 22-35. Fighter- Any Gender, age 22-35. Butcher- Any Gender, age 30-55. Baker- Woman, age 30-55. (Characters whose race is not specified can be of any race or ethnicity, but the cast should be diverse please avoid “only(s)” i.e. one person of color, one white person etc. Some characters may have accents or dialects, as they may not all be from the U.S.A.)

The Hive: A Dystopian Thriller

Humanity’s last hope for survival has led them to live in beehive inspired infrastructures underground. No one knows much about what lies above, or if there even is an “above”. Zia is determined to find out if there is more to life than work and if there is a place for a creative mind even at the end of the world.
