Reginald Edmund is an award-winning playwright, digital content strategist, and creative producer based in Houston, Texas. He is the Co-Founder and Managing Curating Producer of Black Lives Black Words International Project, where he has led the development of over 60 multi-platform theatrical works and digital campaigns across the U.S. and UK. A former resident playwright at Chicago Dramatists and recipient of the Playwrights' Center’s Many Voices Fellowship (2009–2011), Edmund’s work explores themes of identity, history, and liberation through powerful storytelling. He is the creator of The City of the Bayou Collection, a nine-play cycle that includes Southbridge, Juneteenth Street, The Ordained Smile of Sadie May Jenkins, and The Redemption of Allah Black. His plays have been developed and presented at prominent institutions including Penumbra Theatre, Playwrights’ Center, Karamu House, Boston Playwrights' Theatre, MacDowell, Yaddo, Tara Arts, Tamasha Theatre, The National Theatre (UK), and the Kennedy Center, among others. His play Southbridge received the 2013 Edgerton Foundation New Play Award. In addition to his career as a writer, Edmund has served in key dramaturgical and literary roles at organizations such as Robey Theatre Company and Denver Center for the Performing Arts, and has provided mentorship and workshops internationally in the UK, Colombia, and the Czech Republic. He is a recipient of the Kennedy Center Citizen Artist Award, the Gard Foundation Excellence in Community Leadership Award, and has been recognized by Theatre Communications Group as a Young Leader of Color. Edmund holds an MFA in Playwriting from Ohio University and a BFA in Theatre Performance from Texas Southern University.
