Biography

Mary Donnet Johnson (Sarah Lawrence College BA, member Dramatists Guild) 

Mary’s first play, "Twinkle: A One-Act Play for Three Actors, Two Aerialists, a Cellist and Chorus," was a semi-finalist in the 2014 National Playwrights Conference of the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center.  In 2016, "Passage" debuted in the Nashville Sideshow Fringe.  In 2017, "Wrath," was performed in Nashville’s Ten-Minute PlayGround at the Darkhorse Theater.  "Sin Cycle," was a finalist for the Kentucky Women Writers’ 2017 Biennial Prize, judged by Pulitzer Prizer winner Martyna Majok, and "Circular Emotion" was featured in the 2018 Women's Work Festival of TN Women's Theater Project.  “Last Rights” debuted in the 2019 She/Her/Hers Festival with Nashville Story Garden.  Mary regularly participates in Nashville’s Story Garden and the Pipeline Collective Salon at Studio Tenn.  Commissioned works include "To Know You" (at Clayton Center for the Arts during the Maryville College Bicentennial Celebration in 2019), and "Party of Twelve" (for Rutherford Co Arts Alliance -- performance at the Washington Theater TBD after COVID-19 clears)  Mary recently completed a five-year term on the Board of the Tennessee Arts Commission which distributes in excess of five million dollars to over one thousand artists and arts organizations every year, all across the state.  www.marydonnetjohnson.com
