OL' SPARKY by Lawrence B. Fox, will be presented at the Pennsylvania Playhouse in Bethlehem, PA on April 28 - 30, 2023.
The play focuses upon the actual events resulting in an appeal before the U.S. Supreme Court under the caption of Louisiana ex rel. Francis v. Resweber, 329 U.S. 459 (1947). The High Court was called upon to review the death sentence imposed upon a 16-year-old boy. This juvenile, convicted of murder, had been placed in Louisiana's portable electric chair in order to be electrocuted. There was a malfunction, and while the Defendant's hair and clothing caught on fire, there was insufficient electrical current to kill him. He was returned to his jail cell to recuperate.
