Katie Bender is a playwright, performer, and theater maker. Her plays grapple with American myths, revel in female bonds in impossible situations, and delight in physical exertion in bodies-in-space performance. Plays include The Alamo, Instructions for a Séance, The Fault, Still Now, and The Howling Gallery. In collaboration with Reisman and Mars she co-created NEXT YEAR PEOPLE which was developed and premiered at Fusebox Festival in 2018 and 2019. Her work has been developed at The Alley, Hyde Park Theater, Kitchen Dog, Icicle Creek, and ZACH as well as The New Harmony Project, The Orchard Project, Shrewd Productions, The Hangar, EST, and the Playwrights’ Center and Launch Pad to name a few. She is a co-creator of Underbelly, with whom she made ecstatic site-specific performances such as Slip River, Alice in Wonderland, and Church of the Passionate Cat. On the Kilroys List and a finalist for the inaugural Shakespeare’s Sister Fellowship, she has her M.F.A. from The University of Texas and is a 2016/2017 Jerome Fellow and current Affiliated Writer at The Playwrights’ Center.
Alley All New Festival 2020 featured affiliated writer Katie Bender's play SURVIOR, AN ALAMO PLAY. During Katie's Jerome Fellowship, the Playwrights' Center had the honor to workshop this amazing play.
The Survivors/Los Sobrevivientes will be developed at UCSB's LaunchPad reading series in September 2018.
