Biography

JENNY LYN BADER’s plays include None of the Above (New Georges, w/ Alison Pill); Manhattan Casanova (Hudson Stage), winner of the Edith Oliver Award (O’Neill Center), also seen at John Drew Theatre at Guild Hall (w/ Mercedes Ruehl); Out of Mind (NYU/Strasberg); In Flight (Turn to Flesh Productions), Mrs. Stern Wanders the Prussian State Library (Luna Stage). Her one-acts include Miss America (NY Int’l Fringe Festival, “Best of Fringe” selection), Worldness (Humana Festival of New American Plays), Serious Music (York Theatre, w/ songs by Ben Morss), Oppression and Pearls (Coronet Theatre, Los Angeles, “The Gay Marriage Plays"), The Love Experiment (“Painting Plays,” Guild Hall, w/ Tovah Feldshuh), and The Fisherman’s Wife (HERE Arts Center). Jenny Lyn frequently works with Erin Mee’s This is Not a Theatre Company, where she co-wrote Café Play (Cornelia St. Café) and wrote The International Local: 7, a “phoneplay” featured in the 2018 NY Int’l Fringe Festival and available for download on the app Subway Plays. She co-founded Theatre 167, where she co-authored all three plays in The Jackson Heights Trilogy (Theatre 777), I Like to Be Here (New Ohio Theatre), and The Church of Why Not (West End Theatre); wrote The History of Communication (World’s Fair Plays, Queens Theatre) and Afternoon Prayers (Park Plays, Queens Theatre); and was a lead artist for the Jackson Heights Trilogy Immersive Experience (Queens Museum International). For the International Center of Diverse Artists, she co-wrote How We Are Connected: Caribbean (Museo del Barrio, Brooklyn Museum). Twelve of her short plays are published in Smith & Kraus’ Best 10-Minute Play book series. Her work has also been published by Vintage, Applause, Dramatists Play Service, and the Lincoln Center Theater Review. She wrote both seasons of the web serial Watercooler (MSN) and co-wrote He Meant, She Meant (Warner). A summa cum laude graduate of Harvard, she has been a Lark Playwriting Fellow — nominated by Wendy Wasserstein — and was a frequent contributor to the New York Times “Week in Review.” She has written commissioned scripts for NBC, HBO (w/ Billy Crystal), and Laura Ziskin Productions. In 2019 she performed her solo play Equally Divine in the 10th annual United Solo Festival on Theatre Row. Jenny Lyn belongs to the Dramatists Guild of America, the Authors Guild, the League of Professional Theatre Women, and the Playwrights Gallery. She is a 2019 Athena Theatre Playwriting Fellow.
