Biography

Emma Watkins is a M.F.A. candidate in Playwriting at the University of Texas at Austin.

Her plays include Elizabeth is going into the ground (2022 Leah Ryan Prize Honorable Mention, 2023 Bay Area Playwrights Festival Finalist, 2023 O’Neill Playwrights Festival Semifinalist, ScriptWorks), Rumpus for the End of the World OR Susan Sontag in a Bear Suit OR Pan- (2022 Clubbed Thumb Biennial Commission Semifinalist); Petrificationology (Cohen New Works Festival); Unbecoming (PlayPenn), Trailing Rhiannon (McCarter Theatre Lab, Chapter Arts (U.K.), Lewis Center for the Arts), among others. Her plays have been featured on the Playwright Center’s Venturous Plays list and nominated for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize.  She has been published in Stonecoast Review Literary Journal (2023) and Routledge’s Teaching Critical Performance Theory.

She holds a BA magna cum laude from Princeton University in English, Theatre, and Environmental Studies.  As a Fulbright Scholar, she completed her MA with Distinction in Welsh & Celtic Studies from Cardiff University.
