What’s the Matter with Molly?
The Luck Be A Lady Tonight theater is running a one woman show – What’s the Matter with Molly? A feminist screed about the cruelty of Menstruation. The show runs four nights a week and is closed to the public. Because the company is embarrassed by the work. It is solely financed by a wealthy patron, an angry woman, who wants to see her rage on stage. She lives out of town but arrives once a year to award the theater a large check and see the current production. Meanwhile, the theater company uses the majority of the money for trips to Europe and fun clothes. The Stage Manager is given the chance to put together a performance piece to be titled “Now What’s the Matter With Molly?” and the wealthy benefactor arrives with her check. But all hell breaks loose when the Stage Manager has a heart attack the night before the opening, and dies on the floor of the dressing room. The show must go on. So the company stages her funeral.
