In a remote home in space, British couple Marion and Palmer struggle with

isolation. Marion longs for the comforts of Earth and Mars, while Palmer,

unnervingly cheerful, relies on Scatarine—a drug given by alien overlords to

keep settlers content. As they share cocktails, Marion grows frustrated with

Palmer’s artificial happiness and accuses him of losing himself. Palmer insists

Scatarine is the only way to endure their bleak reality, even if it shortens her

life. Marion resists, clinging to her independence and questioning their fate.

When the power cuts off, they realize their every word has been monitored

and danger is imminent. The play ends in darkness, with Sinatra’s haunting

melody underscoring their inevitable doom. Dark Matter is meant to be a

darkly comedic look at isolation, conformity, and the human fight for freedom

in the face of despair.
