"As a freelance director/producer, I’m always looking for plays with fabulous characters: individuals who are complicated, contradictory, and have distinct voices."- Joel Sass
Join Tim J. Lord (2017 - 2018 Jerome Fellow) to begin building characters from "place" rather than "person". Pretty much every play starts with a description of its characters, place, and time. This seminar will investigate the importance of the "place" part of that equation. How can we create characters by exploring the specific landscapes those characters come from?
This is the seminar for you if:
- You want to approach your work from a different angle
- You're just as fascinated with the "where" as you are with the "who"
- You've got some places in mind
PostScript: Tim J. Lord is the first ever receipient of The Apothetae and Lark Playwriting Fellowship. This fellowship will provide a two-year cycle of support for the generation and development of a new play to essay and challenge popular perceptions of the "Disabled Experience."
Playwrights of all experience levels welcome.
