Behind the March is a reflection on when the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom was being organized. There was only one woman on the planning committee, Minnesotan Anna Arnold Hedgeman. This play is a dramatization of her role as the sole woman on the committee and highlights the historical fact that although women were key to the success of the civil rights movement, they were often excluded from leadership roles. This play is a tribute to those women.
