Are you an aspiring playwright, director, dramaturg, theater arts administrator, or theater artist of any discipline? Have you ever thought about being an apprentice at the Playwrights' Center? 

In this episode of Theater Begins Here, we have invited our three talented apprentices, Emma, Franny, and Kennedy, to talk about why they chose to work with us, what their experience has been so far, and what advice they'd give to those interested in applying. As always, we will respond to questions from the live audience or those submitted via the Membership Podcast: Theater Begins Here Questions Form.

GUEST ARTIST BIO

EMMA SWAIN (she/they) is a queer German-American playwright & theater artist currently based in Minneapolis, MN, and originally from Illinois. She holds a B.A. in Music Theatre and English from Carthage College and is thrilled to be working at the Playwrights' Center in Minneapolis, MN as an Apprentice this year. Professionally, Emma's playwriting work has appeared in readings and workshops across the US, including at Long Island University in New York, at Florida Repertory Theater, and at the 2020 Kennedy Center College Theatre Festival, where they were awarded the Region III John Cauble Short Play Award for WIRE TAPS. Outside of working in theater, Emma loves cooking, crafting, taking care of her houseplants, and spending time with her friends.

FRANNY FLEMING is a writer, director, and teaching artist based in the Twin cities. They create and produce work that processes the trauma that is passed through generations while acknowledging the healing process of reconnecting with old and finding new families. They have developed work as an intern at Ojai Playwrights Conference as well as their own producing company, Three Willows, and are so excited to join the Playwrights Center for an exciting and fabulous year!

KENNEDY JONES is an actor, writer, and arts administrator here in the Twin Cities. She holds a BFA in Classical Acting from Southern Utah University, with additional studies in Dance Performance and Arts Administration. Professionally she has worked with the Utah Shakespeare Festival, The Shakespeare Project, and Missoula Children's Theater. She most recently participated the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange where she spent a year working in Germany with Theater Orchester Heidelberg and Galerie Marianne Heller. She is passionate about storytelling in all forms, and is excited for this opportunity at the Playwrights' Center. www.kennjone.com
