CLASS DESCRIPTION

Oftentimes, the biggest hurdle when it comes to writing isn’t the writing, it’s the starting. “How do I turn this idea into a fleshed-out concept?” “How do I breathe life into my concept?” “I have this amazing idea, now what?” These are questions that I ask myself before every single one of my processes. This workshop is designed to help writers (no matter what stage they are in their career) break through the blockage that comes with getting an idea off the ground and onto the page/computer screen. If you would like to try a variety of different writing exercises that will provoke a play out of you, then you are invited to join this workshop.

This Is the Class for You if You:

  • Are interested in techniques to help with Writer’s Block.
  • Have been feeling stuck in your work.
  • Are struggling to get ideas on the blank page.

What to Expect:

  • To engage with exercises that will serve as the jumpstart to get ideas out of your head and on the page.

  • Exercises will focus on image-work, dialogue, and characters.

  • Writers will discuss their discoveries/epiphanies/takeaways that showed up to them during the course of the workshop.

  • An open but guided discussion with the instructor and the other class participants.

NOTE FROM NUBIA

This subject is important because it challenges the writer to push past any blockage that could be hindering them from birthing that play that they have been trying to write. This

workshop encourages the writer to utilize a variety of stimulating exercises that will guide them through the beginning stages of the writing process.

My philosophy is: Ideas are like birds, just as quickly as they’ll fly to you, is as quickly as they’ll fly away from you if you let them. Don’t let your ideas fly away from you; get them out on paper, in the notes in your phone, or write them on the inside of your hand if you have to; but no matter what you do, do not let that idea leave you because that idea will expand, and evolve into a piece of art that will change a life or even the world.
