"I like [...] how complex things look or sound when juxtaposed next to things like pop culture that people might think aren’t as complex but that, in my mind, hold a more direct line to the complexities we get from theory." - Jeremy O. Harris

Pop is often demonized as low-brow, but it is what many people turn to for escapism and entertainment. In this seminar with May Lee-Yang, we will explore how our own pop culture obsessions--which often include TV, movies, music, and games--can be a lens through which our stories function.

This is the Seminar for you if:

  • You are curious about the intersection of pop culture and playwriting
  • You are fascinated by contemporary plays
  • You have a series you love and plays to write

PostScript: May's play The Korean Drama Addict’s Guide to Losing Your Virginity just premiered last season at Mu Performing Arts, keep an eye for her next production Dandelion Girl.
