INTENSIVE DESCRIPTION

Due to popular demand, we’re offering a second option to join Emilio Williams for a Writing Intensive dedicated to how to write adaptations for the stage. Are you working on a play based on existing sources? Your adaptation may be very close to the original material, or go very far away from it, reimagining it in unexpected ways. Either way, this course will help you strategize the building blocks of your own version, as well as to make choices in terms of what to bring to your new work or leave behind.

Intensive Sessions:

Mondays, June 22 through August 10

8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Central Time

From Emilio

Existing texts allow us to learn more about how to follow or break away from the theatrical traditions. Texts, particularly those in the public domain, can be an endless source of inspiration and can always be updated and revised to incoporate sensitivities and concerns of the adaptor and our times.

**********

“Learn from the writers you admire. Don’t imitate, don’t copy. Learn how they do it, then figure out how to do it your own way. That way you don’t get compared to anyone.”
—Edward Albee
