Class Type: Before the Play
Class Level: Intermediate & Advanced (self-identified) Playwrights Only
Join us for this six-hour multi-session masterclass on the art of translating in playwriting. This masterclass, taught by dramaturg Wendy Weckwerth, will take place over two consecutive Sundays. Participants should plan to attend both sessions.
"Ultimately, literature is nothing but carpentry. Both are very hard work. Writing something is almost as hard as making a table." - Gabriel García Márquez
Are you considering dipping a toe into adaptation and/or translation? In this intensive, we will examine issues of translation through examples of various plays. With a collection of pre-readings and exercises (that don't require everyone to share a second language) we will write our own translations. This masterclass will offer you a chance to explore the delicate art of adding your voice to pre-written material. Don't miss this chance to work with master dramaturg, editor, and translator Wendy Weckwerth!
