The play opens ten years after a car accident that killed Ryan, Jessica’s college fiancé. Jessica has invited Ryan’s mother, Evelyn, over to return some of Ryan’s things. Jessica’s husband is about to announce his candidacy for U.S. Senate and Jessica wants to tie up some loose ends from her past and warn Evelyn about the oncoming media onslaught that will dig up the past and likely threaten to expose some long-held secrets about Ryan.
