A powerful way to write a unique, distinct play is to set it in a unique, distinct place.  How can we draw vibrant dramatic material from the places we grew up?  How do we create stories inspired by our travels?  How can we convincingly write about far away places that we’ve never been to?  This six-week online class is devoted to writers who love their hometown, love to travel, and love to imagine.  We will draw on both personal, first-hand experiences of place as well as research/interview-based investigations of place – and how to use that in our playwriting.  The first four classes will focus on a new, short exercise for each week – with the last two weeks devoted to cultivating one of those exercises into the seed of a full-length play.
