SUMMARY:Artists in Conversation: Ruben Santiago-Hudson
DESCRIPTION:About the event\nOur first event of the 2026-27 season will feature the incomparable Ruben Santiago-Hudson in an extra-special Artists in Conversation event to benefit Playwrights’ Center! \nSantiago-Hudson will be in the Twin Cities this fall directing The Guthrie’s production of John Kani’s Kunene and the King\, and he’ll stop by Playwrights’ Center on September 23 at 7:30 p.m. to talk with Producing Artistic Director Nicole A. Watson. \nThis event will require a paid ticket to attend. Pricing accommodations will be made for artists and community members: \n\nGeneral Admission: $100 (includes $75 donation to Playwrights’ Center)\nArtist Ticket: $25 (for working artists and arts administrators)\nStudent Ticket $10\n\n  \n6:45 p.m. Doors & bar open7:30 p.m. Conversation begins \nSantiago-Hudson received a Tony Award for his performance in August Wilson’s Seven Guitars and most recently received a Tony Award nomination along with Drama Desk\, Drama League and Outer Critic Award nominations for his performance in August Wilson’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone. His similarly award-winning autobiographical play Lackawanna Blues made Ruben the only person in the history of Broadway to write\, direct and star in a play. The HBO film of Lackawanna Blues received an abundance of honors as well\, including the Emmy\, Golden Globe\, and NAACP Image Awards\, The Christopher Award\, and the Humanitas Prize. \nAs a writer\, director\, and actor Ruben’s credits\, honors\, and awards are almost too numerous to list (see more below). \nPlaywrights’ Center’s own deep connection to August Wilson and his work will provide the spark for what is sure to be a wide-ranging\, electric\, and joyful conversation between friends about the past\, present and future of the American theater. \n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Making your reservation\nThis is an in-person\, ticketed event at Playwrights’ Center on Wednesday\, September 23. \nPlease use the sign up link below to purchase tickets in advance. \nIf you have any questions about making your reservation\, please email us at rsvp@pwcenter.org. \nWhen to arrive\nAll seating is general admission. We recommend arriving at least 10-15 minutes prior to the reading to check in and find your seat. Please note\, free parking is limited around the Center. \nVisit our About page to learn more about parking and accessibility. \nLarge groups\nIf you are making a reservation for more than eight people\, please email us at rsvp@pwcenter.org to arrange.
